Where do you go to my Lovely?

Collared female migratory elephants, Sanikata and Kimita, and their families, very rarely meet up and so it came as a surprise to Saruni to see on his screen that both of them were together, close to The Cottage (where Tom and Jo live). These photos of Kimita show that she is a beautiful elephant with glorious tusks and a calm manner.

As of today, the two matriarchs are 1.5 kilometres apart...

But this trace map from Space for Giants, one of our wildlife partners, shows just how far these two elephants travel throughout the months of January 2020 to July, 2021. The trace shows a round trip of well over 100 miles and illustrates their tendency to travel in a very straight line in areas which are more dangerous and less hospitable. We're pleased to see just how long they stay at Loisaba knowing, like our resident elephants, that they are very safe.
