The Felix Coalition

On the far side of Loisaba, close to the community land in the West and North East, there is a pride of five vigorous young male lions, two sets of two brothers and one single male who have formed a coalition - headed by a male called Felix. Felix had been collared some time ago but in August of last year his collar stopped working and failed to give any GPS signal. Shortly before Christmas it was decided that the collar should be replaced. It took rangers in two vehicles, and some on foot, three days to find the pride. However, it turned out to be a fortuitous moment since Felix was injured; as the team approached his heavily sedated body they could see that he had deep wounds just behind his elbow and under his tummy.

The veterinary team set about replacing his collar, and treating each of his wounds so that once he was awake again he stood a good chance of recovery.

Happily on 3rd January 2021, the male pride were observed by guests on the far side of the plain, and by now they were entertaining a lady! This female has since given birth and has four healthy cubs.

Now that Felix has been collared, the pride only takes an hour to locate, saving the security team valuable, time and energy.

Sadly, we have some momentous lion news that we will pass on shortly.
