Twinkle Twinkle

Two of our stars, Haron and Moses, were having far too much fun at work yesterday when they went out to Papa Three - one of the outlying security posts. Having checked the solar-electric system they bumped into an Eland, as you do, and she greeted them like long lost friends. Bearing in mind that the Eland is normally a very shy creature, and knows very well that it is extremely edible, this encounter left the two men rather surprised.

Elands are the biggest of the African antelopes standing up to 170cm at the shoulder and weighing up to 1000kg for a mature bull. Moses thinks this one was more likely 500 kgs but he didn't pick her up. Elands only drink water once a day but in the right conditions can go up to a month without drinking.

Haron, like Joseph, has now gone home for two weeks - the Loisaba staff tend to work for six weeks on and then have two weeks off - but the great news is that from this weekend all of the Elewana staff will be back at work and the lodges will be open for the season ahead.
