Overall Success

Mutiso is the well-respected and long-standing Workshop Supervisor at Loisaba who looks after the team of five senior and two junior mechanics. He worked his way up from being a mechanic himself, then store-keeper and now, Supervisor, standing in for the Workshop Manager, Ian, when he is away. He is renowned for creating the happy but hard-working atmosphere in the workshop, and for cracking jokes and telling stories. In this way he bonds everyone together and keeps them all motivated. He's been with Loisaba for twenty-five years!

“I was a young, ambitious citizen, raised in the Eastern Province known as Ukambani, which is semi-arid and difficult to farm. I decided to go in search of greener pastures, working first of all in Nairobi and then moving to Loisaba Conservancy.”

“I got the opportunity to sharpen my mechanical skills and was sent to driving school so that I could pass my test. With the help of the rest of the work shop team I was eventually promoted. I love my work, especially servicing the generators, the game vehicles, and ensuring the smooth running of the workshop itself. There’s always more to learn and we have to be able to handle all kinds of mechanical problems.”

Mutiso is a fan of watching National Geographic and listening to ‘Zilizopendwa’ music – easy-listening, popular East African music, rich in the sound of guitars and brass, sung in Swahili. His favourite is Les Wanyika   - Sina Makosa – I’m not wrong.
