The Narok Males

Since the incident during which Narok was killed and the Narok pride scattered, the two males that are – or at least were – part of the pride have been staying in the area of the Kiboko Dam . These two, brothers, had been with the Narok Pride for four years and looked to be in the prime of their lives. Understandably, they seem altogether more restless and jumpy now - wondering if their rivals could be around the next corner.

Meanwhile, Felix’s coalition of five have been observed all over the Conservancy, presenting a risk to every other lion that they meet. Several of their female partners have cubs with them.

It’s an interesting but uncertain time for all of the lions – especially the females of the Narok pride that have had the protection of the same reliable lioness for the whole of their lives. None of these lions are collared, or named, and so it is difficult to choose a successor to Narok as one of our stars.

In more peaceful times, the Narok males seemed more relaxed and confident. These pictures were taken just after Christmas:
